Prelude

“En Prière” (In Prayer) by Gabriel Fauré

Robert Lamb

Call to Worship, Welcome, Prayer of Confession
& Assurance of Forgiveness

Mark Edwards

Prayer of Confession
Jesus you send us into the world to proclaim from rooftops,
but we cower in basements.
You tell us to cure the sick and cleanse the lepers,
but we, instead, advance our own well being.
You tell us to give without payment and to not trust in silver and gold,
but we hoard and cherish our wealth.
You tell us to be wise as serpents and innocent as doves,
yet we are neither.
Forgive us and have mercy on us.
Take the little we do and make it grow.
Take our timid lives and give us faith.
Take our selfish concerns and redeem them,
so that through your goodness, we may become children of your light. Amen.

Hymn

Love Divine, All Loves Excelling” (Glory to God # 366)

Maria Palombo & Noel Werner, organ

1. Love divine, all loves excelling,
Joy of heaven, to earth come down,
fix in us thy humble dwelling;
all thy faithful mercies crown.
Jesus, thou art all compassion;
pure, unbounded love thou art;
visit us with thy salvation;
enter every trembling heart.

2. Breathe, O breathe thy loving Spirit
into every troubled breast;
let us all in thee inherit;
let us find the promised rest.
Take away the love of sinning;
Alpha and Omega be;
end of faith, as its beginning,
set our hearts at liberty.

3. Come, Almighty, to deliver;
let us all thy life receive;
suddenly return, and never,
nevermore thy temples leave.
Thee we would be always blessing,
serve thee as thy hosts above,
pray, and praise thee without ceasing,
glory in thy perfect love.

4. Finish then thy new creation;
pure and spotless let us be;
let us see thy great salvation
perfectly restored in thee:
changed from glory into glory,
till in heaven we take our place,
till we cast our crowns before thee,
lost in wonder, love, and praise.

Duet

The Gift of Love” by Hal Hopson

Isabel & Josie, Ingrid Ladendorf, piano

Though I may speak with bravest fire,
and have the gift to all inspire,
and have not love, my words are vain,
as sounding brass, and hopeless gain.

Though I may give all I possess,
and striving so my love profess,
but not be given by love within,
the profit soon turns strangely thin.

Come, Spirit, come, our hearts control;
our spirits long to be made whole.
Let inward love guide every deed;
by this we worship, and are freed.

Prayers of the People, Affirmation of Faith & Call for Offering

Rev. Len Scales

Philippians 2:5-11
Let the same mind be in you that was in Christ Jesus,
who, though he was in the form of God,
did not regard equality with God as something to be exploited,
but emptied himself,
taking the form of a servant,
being born in human likeness.
And being found in human form he humbled himself
and became obedient to the point of death – even death on a cross.
Therefore God also highly exalted him
and gave him the name that is above every name,
so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bend,
in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
and every tongue confess
that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God!
