*New* Outdoor Large Group Opportunities

This week the Forward in Faith Together Committee is excited to announce some outdoor large group activities that are being planned. Numbers will be limited so signing up will be required. We will also again commit to our outdoor large group covenant of health and safety.

The Werner family will host an outside gathering at their home in beautiful Dayton, NJ, on Sunday, October 18.  This will be an afternoon of fun games like Taboo and Family Feud for young and old alike.  Come meet Noel and Wendi, their daughters Sophie and Emily, and their dog Lola!  Bring your own snacks and a beverage, and we can provide chairs if you forget yours.  Let’s enjoy some fun and fellowship together.

On Sunday October 25th Cathy and Dave Davis will host a backyard cornhole tournament. Other games will be enjoyed and a campfire pit will be lit. Black Lab Rooney will have an offsite play date because he really likes the cornhole bags. And actually playing cornhole or joining the tournament is not required.

Last but certainly not least, Corrie Berg and the Children’s and Family Ministry committee will host a pumpkin carving party on Friday October 30th  (location TBD). Parent supervision will be required. And most importantly, it will be a BYO Pumpkin!!

Opportunities for Community Support

“When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, “Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.” ― Fred Rogers

Below are a few ways you can join in helping our community in the weeks ahead. As we all practice physical distancing and social solidarity, the most direct way to support non-profit organizations is through monetary donations. Whether or not you are able to give financially at this time, we invite you to pray for the helpers in our world and to make an extra phone call each week checking in on friends and neighbors.

Little Free Pantry & Library

Find a new addition to the garden between Nassau Presbyterian & Maclean House. Stop by to leave or take non-perishable food items or a book. Thanks to Arm in Arm for making essentials more easily accessible to our neighbors.

Food donations to Arm In Arm are always welcome. Leave items in the new pantry OR drop them in the box located on the other side of Nassau Church, near the playground.

Volunteers Needed at Arm in Arm!

What does volunteering at Arm in Arm look like? Glad you asked! Watch the video below…

Arm in Arm continues to serve a record number of individuals and families through our food pantries and grocery deliveries and in June provided groceries through more than 4,000 visits and deliveries. Our Homelessness Prevention Team is diligently working as well, and we have launched our 50 Family Challenge with the intent of helping to keep 50 families stably housed this summer.

Please note that all clients, staff and volunteers must wear masks, and that Arm in Arm provides masks to the clients who do not have them. Staff and volunteers do not have any interactions with unmasked community members. Volunteer stations are also inside and socially distant, and clients are not permitted to enter the building. Hand sanitizer, gloves and face guards are provided to volunteers as well. All volunteers must complete the COVID-19 health screening a day or two prior to reporting to the pantry to volunteer.

Donations to Nassau Presbyterian’s Hunger Offering are always appreciated as well.

We are committed to receiving the hunger offering until all are fed. The Hunger Offering is distributed locally, nationally, and internationally through Send Hunger Packing Princeton, HomeFront, Trenton Area Soup Kitchen, the Presbyterian Hunger Program, and the Uniting Reformed Church in Stellenbosch, South Africa.

Through your generosity, two additional hunger offering recipients were added throughout the first 18 months of the pandemic. Hunger Offering giving decreased to pre-pandemic levels at the beginning of Fall 2021, so the Mission & Outreach Committee has returned to the five original hunger partners.

If you redirected giving to the Hunger Offering from Arm in Arm once they were added as a temporary Hunger Offering recipient, we encourage you to re-establish your giving to Arm in Arm. Thank you for your continued generosity to the Hunger Offering, Arm in Arm, and all Nassau’s mission partners.

You may donate electronically online (select the Hunger Fund): My Nassau

or by texting NASSAU Hunger to 73256.

Thank you for all the ways, small and large, you are helping in response to COVID-19.

Nassau Church and the Corona Virus

March 11, 2020
To the Nassau Presbyterian Church Family,

Your church staff continues to make necessary plans this week regarding public health concerns. It is a rapidly changing landscape and we are responding, planning, and sharing decisions with the Session. We are in communication with local government and very aware of the plans announced this week by the University and the Seminary.

Because of our deep concern for the well-being of our church and community, beginning today, Wednesday March 11, 2020 we will be cancelling all programming, events, and activities. We are taking a Lenten Sabbatical and possibly beyond to ensure we are doing all we can to keep COVID-19 / Coronavirus from spreading.

This includes the cancellation of all scheduled meetings, rehearsals, and Sunday worship.  March 15th’s Youth Sunday will be rescheduled at a future date. Lenten Small Groups and communion dinners will not be held, but we will work with the leaders to meet by creative means. Arm In Arm already has a plan in place for getting food to those who need it.

Each week we will update the congregation as to our plans and any changes to what is listed above. Please check the church website and your email for these updates. For this Sunday, we will post a filmed service brought to you by the staff.

As we continue on this Lenten journey unlike any other, please remember to check on neighbors, friends, and church members. Communication, support, and reassurance are ultimately important.

You can reach our staff members through their emails and office phones and we will keep our emergency cell phone on each and every day. If needed, please call the cell phone at 1-609-613-1077.

We will continue to review and adapt on a day to day basis.

With grace and peace and prayers,
David A. Davis

March 6, 2020

To the Nassau Presbyterian Church Family,

We would like to assure you that your church staff has been discussing plans and making preparations in light of the rapid spread of the COVID-19 virus. Our resources have included the World Health Organization, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the State of New Jersey Department of Health, and the Presbyterian Church (USA). We are also reaching out to health care professionals in the congregation. Our commitment to you is to make responsible decisions without fueling fear and misinformation.

Please find the items below for your information, safety and health.

  • Please remember to make responsible choices for your own health and the health of those around you. If you do not feel well, please do not come to worship and church activities. If you choose to be extra careful and refrain from gathering in groups and crowds, please know your church supports you.
  • Church staff have created a handout on self-care and prevention with information from all the resources mentioned. It is available on Sunday and on our website.
  • Extra bottles of sanitizer and bleach wipes will be available throughout the building and in classrooms. Remember, this is not a substitute for thoroughly washing hands with soap and hot water.
  • Extra time and care will be taken in cleaning knobs, bars, and surfaces throughout the building.
  • Lenten small group communion and Lenten home dinner communion will NOT be celebrated by intinction. Our traditional Presbyterian small cups or small glasses will be provided along with other materials.
  • We are paying close attention to the directions of the State of New Jersey Department of Health while monitoring Princeton University, Princeton Theological Seminary and local schools. We are prepared to cancel all activity at 61 Nassau Street if necessary. If that action is required, sermons, music, prayers, and other worship resources will be prerecorded and available on our website.
  • Ongoing discussions are being held to provide pastoral care for any who may be facing extended time in their home. We are also in touch with our area hospitals about clergy visitation, or restriction.

If you have any questions, please be in touch with any member of the staff and let us continue to prayer for the sick, medical and public officials, and all the vulnerable who live in fear.

With grace and peace,

David A. Davis
Pastor
