Advent at Home
Lighting the Advent wreath candles, whether real flames or battery-operated votive lights, is a way to nurture the faith of each family member. How you use these worship moments during Advent will depend largely on your family’s make-up and schedule. Some things to consider:
- If the children in your family are preschool age, simplify these Advent moments by lighting the candle, signing the theme word, reading the shorter version of the Bible text, and praying the prayer together.
- Select a time each week when the whole family can be together. Just before or after a meal together works for many families, and it doesn’t have to be on Sunday.
- Include some or all of the extra material if your children are older. Select the suggestions that you think will interest your family.
- Schedules and circumstances may interfere with your plans. Be flexible. And if you miss a week, don’t worry. Combine two weeks to catch up.
- Scripture text printed here is from the Common English Bible (CEB). This is the translation in use by Nassau’s church school teachers for elementary age students.
