Water Walk 2021

On May 22, Nassau Church mission partner Villages in Partnership (VIP) will host its annual Water Walk (7-8:30 p.m., livestreamed on Facebook and YouTube) to raise awareness of the desperate plight of impoverished villagers in Malawi’s rural Sakata region, and raise funds to support VIP’s work to save lives with clean water and sanitation in one of the poorest countries in the world.

Help us change lives by joining the Nassau Church VIP Virtual Water Walk Team. Give and let others know about this opportunity to partner with VIP and help provide access to water, health care, and life-giving infrastructure in Malawi.

#MissionMonday – Myanmar

Prayers for Myanmar

Since the coup on February 1, Nassau has been joining in prayer for the people of Myanmar. We pray for their safety and liberation. One of our long-time mission partners Cetana, like most NGOs and INGOs in Myanmar, have suspended operations for now. There are a few smaller organizations still able to operate and the need is great. Marisa Charles spoke with Nassau’s Mission & Outreach Commitee in April. She shared the documents below as an overview of the current situation and examples of how we can continue to support our siblings in Myanmar.

Marisa Charles is an international development specialist raised at Nassau Church with over 10 years experience with NGOs in Myanmar.

Princeton Presbyterians of the Westminster Foundation is a non-profit organization committed to the faithful discipleship of undergraduate and graduate students in Princeton. Andrew & Len Scales have been serving as the Presbyterian Chaplains at Princeton University and Executive Co-Directors of the Westminster Foundation for the last five years. In their role, they also serve as adjunct pastors at Nassau Presbyterian. Nassau is a long-term partner of the Westminster Foundation and continues to make the ministry of Princeton Presbyterians possible.

Over three weeks in May, hear from current students and young alumni about their connections with Princeton Presbyterians and the impact of faith on their vocational paths. We travel together “On Life’s Journey.”

#MissionMonday – Loveland Foundation

Supporting Healing for Black Women & Girls

In memory of the 500,000 lives lost and in honor of each family and community grieving, Mission & Outreach approved a grant of $4,059 (15% of our discretionary funds for the year) to The Loveland Foundation. We know Covid disproportionately impacts communities of color, and that women often carry the heaviest burden. This gift would help support the healing of Black women and girls through therapy. Through supporting their healing, we support the healing in their families, communities, and our world.

The Loveland Foundation: The Therapy Fund for Black Women and Girls was founded in 2018 by Rachel Elizabeth Cargle. Cargle is a public academic, author, and activist. The Loveland Foundation provides access to therapy for Black women and girls across the country.

VBS & PresbyCamp 2021

Last year, at Virtual Vacation Bible School we told stories of the Israelites’ captivity and exile to Babylon. As we began our own pandemic exile, we empathized with their grief as they missed their beloved Temple and traditions just as we were missing our church building and community.

It’s now a year later. We have walked this long road together but the journey is not quite finished. Although there a signs of hope, we’re starting to ask, “Are we there yet?”

VBS 2021 again looks to the stories of our faith to provide guidance for our life. Welcome to Wilderness Wanderings: God Prepares a People. This summer we will gathering together again (outdoors and in-person on the grounds of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation in Princeton) to revisit the story of the Exodus and the 40-year trek through the desert from Egypt to the Promised Land. Along the way, God provided water, food, rules for living together, and leaders for the people. As we journey through this pandemic, God provides for us—young and old, individuals and the church community—what we need too.

#MissionMonday – Appalachia Service Project

Repairing Homes. Transforming Lives

Over the past decade Nassau Presbyterian Church has sent more than 150 members – youth and adults, experienced and beginners – to work on projects for ASP, Appalachia Service Project. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic we have not been able to participate since 2019 but look forward to the next opportunity.

On Youth Sunday we take up a special collection to support the work of ASP and this year is no different. Please join us in support of this group. Choose “ASP” from the Fund drop down box.

Over 50 Years of Repairing and Replacing Homes in Central Appalachia

  • More than 25 communities are served by ASP each year
  • More than 350 families are impacted through ASP each year
  • More than 3,000 repair projects are completed by volunteers each year
  • More than 20 new homes are built and gifted each year
  • More than 15,000 volunteers serve with ASP each year
  • ASP repairs roofs, walls, floors, foundations, and bathrooms, in addition to making homes accessible through porch and ramp repairs or additions

Outdoor Large Groups – Spring 2021

Spring is here and fellowship opportunities have arrived. Sign up below for a variety of get-togethers.

In addition, throughout the summer, on Wednesday evenings beginning May 12, bring a chair, blanket, and dinner to the church for an outdoor picnic fellowship at 6:15 PM. This is followed by evening worship at 7:00 PM, in our new parking lot chapel.

Lectio Divina – Adult Education (4/25 & 5/2)

Lectio Divina with Ignatius of Loyola

St. Benedict introduced the church to a rich form of Scripture meditation called lectio divina, but Ignatius of Loyola in the 16th C. added imaginative depth to the practice, which we would like to share with you. Come join us for guided meditations around various passages that invite you to see, hear, taste, touch and smell the sights and sounds of Scripture.

Bo Karen Lee is associate professor of spiritual theology and Christian formation at Princeton Theological Seminary. Before joining Princeton faculty, she taught at Loyola College in Baltimore, Maryland, where she developed courses with a vibrant service-learning component for students to work at shelters for women recovering from drug addiction and sex trafficking. She now enjoys teaching classes on prayer for the Spirituality and Mission Program at Princeton Seminary, in addition to taking students on retreats and hosting meditative walks along nature trails.

#MissionMonday – VIP Water Walk

Villages in Partnership’s annual Water Walk raises funds for clean water, health, and sanitation for our neighbors in 26 remote villages of Malawi, Africa. Your gifts support sustainable development projects, impacting over 21,000 lives.

Villages in Partnership (VIP) is Nassau Church’s mission partner working in Malawi, Africa, to fight extreme poverty in rural villages. VIP’s signature event, the Water Walk, will be conducted virtually on Saturday, May 22. Funds raised through this event will help to drill wells for clean water and build hand-washing stations in public spaces to reduce disease and improve the quality of life.
